Dealing With Bee Stings

A bee sting is no fun, as it can not only cause you pain, but it can also put poison in your blood stream that makes you feel sick (and of course, it is even worse for those who are allergic to bee stings!), but even though you will be hopeful that you (or your children) will not have to deal with bee stings, it is wise – especially during the summer – to know what you should do in case a bee sting occurs. Taking care of bee stings is easy to do, after all, but if you do not know what you are doing, you will not be able to take the proper steps!

The first thing you need to do is check to see if the stinger is embedded in the skin; if the stinger is not in the skin, you will be in much better shape, as this will mean there was little to no poison emitted, but if the stinger is embedded in the skin, you will need to use tweezers and pull it out.

You will need to mix a little concoction to go over the area of the sting after you have removed (and safely disposed of) the stinger; in a bowl, stir a little bit of water into baking soda until it creates a paste-like substance, then cover the area with this paste and allow it to dry.

You will minimize the effects of the sting and the poison with this concoction of baking soda and water, but you will also need to make sure that no air is getting to the spot of the sting, and that the paste is not crumbling off; you can do this by putting a bandage over the paste and leaving it on for several hours.

If you take these measures and an allergic reaction still occurs, you should immediately visit a doctor – but as long as you take these steps, you will greatly minimize the possibility of any further damage!

Gift Ideas for a Golfer

Do you have someone in your house that can be found out on the golf course any minute they find free time? Have you found that you are completely lost when it comes to purchasing a gift for your golf lover? Golfers spend a ton of time practicing their game trying to beat their past score and hone their skills. You should really consider purchasing them something they will really use either while practicing their game.

Hinged training clubs are a great training aid for an aspiring great golfer. At first glance this may look like a normal club but it is actually quite special.  This club will “break” if it is swung too hard.  This helps to train you to use the optimal swing. If you swing this club too quickly the end of the club will break and easily identify the problem. This can be a big help teaching a golfer consistancy in their swing. Although very advanced level golfers may not find this helpful the majority of golfers will.

Believe it or not there is a lot of stuff that needs to be brought along when someone goes golfing.  Trying to keep the shoes, extra tees, extra balls, and clothing in order can cause a very messy car. A golf organizer trunk is great as it has room for a change of clothing along with room for all of the other extras. Everything is extrememly organized and stored perfectly in a trunk of a car.

To further assist your golfer improve their game, you could purchase a golf practice net. This is a great net that allows you to practice driving, chipping, and even putting in a very small backyard while protecting all of the windows in neighboring houses. If your golfer can’t make it to the course every day, this is a great way to supplement swinging time.

There are so many other things you could consider such as novelty golf balls, different types of tees, and various training aids. It is worth your time to take a look at what is available in the market for golfers, you may find just the right thing as a gift.

Taking A Look At Two Great Summer Reads (That Are Even Better Together!)

Kicking back on the beach or by the pool and reading a great book is one of the favorite pastimes of summer; but just because a book is a “great book” does not necessarily mean that it is a great summer book, as a great summer book should be short enough to be read in bits and pieces while being absorbing enough to keep you mesmerized. While this description is certainly fulfilled by a number of different books, here are two books in particular – and when you read these two books together, the effect will even be amplified!

One of these two books falls into the category of “classics” (after all, it is always best to blend a classic with a modern novel!), and you may have even ready it before; it is The Old Man and the Sea. Many people who read this book in high school come away feeling like they don’t understand why it is considered a classic – but read this book during a lazy summer day while relaxing by a pool or on the beach, and you will surely understand!

The modern novel that is such a tremendous compliment to The Old Man and the Sea is The Great Lenore, which received tremendous reviews upon its publication this summer. The Great Lenore is the story about a woman who is falsely reported dead, and who uses this as an opportunity to start a new life; the book is set along the beaches of Nantucket, and the ease of reading combined with the magnificent beauty of the story makes The Great Lenore a perfect selection when you are going to be spending time at the beach or at a pool.

You can find great deals on Amazon for both The Old Man and the Sea and The Great Lenore, and when you pick up these two titles and indulge in them during the summer, you will be able to understand exactly what people mean when they talk about their adventures reading those “perfect summer books”!
