How to Unwind – Tips For Making The Most Of Your Weekends

I’m a big advocate of the weekend.  I love my weekends.  I work my buns off during the week and on the weekends, I try to take this time to detach, unwind and rejuvenate.  For anyone who works full-time, weekends are very valuable; they are a time when you can unwind and relax a bit before you get back to the grind – but many people finish the weekend and return to work on Monday wondering, “Where did the weekend go?” One of the main things that causes people to feel this way is that they fail to figure out how to maximize their weekends; while the approach to “maximizing” a weekend will be different for every different individual, here are a few tips for you to keep in mind for maximizing your weekend!

Sleep less: Even though the weekend can seem like the perfect time to get a bit of extra sleep in, extra sleep will not only shorten your weekend, but it can also make you more tired; when you get more sleep at night than your body is used to, it can make you feel sluggish, so instead of sleeping more at night, keep the same night schedule and take a short nap in the afternoon to get extra sleep!  I saw this on Dr. Oz, actually, when he did a brief segments on some surprising sleep tips, and one woman wrote in saying that she tried to “catch up” on her sleep on the weekends, but she just felt tired no matter how long she slept.  so he advises waking up maybe an hour after you normally would, and taking a power nap in the afternoon if you want to, but this will help keep you from feeling like you have fog-head all weekend.

Plan events: When you have nothing that you can point to from a weekend, saying “Oh yes, I did [such-and-such] during the weekend,” the weekend will have a tendency to feel more “empty.” Make sure you create at least one high point in your weekend by planning an event – even if it is just during an afternoon or an evening – that you will be able to point to later on.I used to just want to stay home all weekend and “relax”, but I found that just sitting around the whole time didn’t really help me to relax, it ended up making me more anxious by Sunday afternoon because I had nothing to occupy my mind.  So get out!

Forget about the week: Too many people make the mistake of putting a lot of “pressure” on their weekend, thinking about the work week they just came out of, and thinking about the work week they will soon be heading into, and they forget to focus on the time at hand!  Take the time OFF as in OFF as in OFFFFFF!!  Get it?

When you try these three tips for maximizing your weekend, you should find that at least one of them (and perhaps all of them!) works great for you, and that you can feel more relaxed – and can feel like you are having longer weekends – when you are following these tips.

How To Teach Creative Writing To Middle School Students

It is easier to teach creative writing to a group of high school students than to a group of middle school students, but as businesses are putting more and more emphasis on the importance of writing, it is becoming increasingly important for children to start learning about writing from an early age. If you are either the parent of a middle school child or a teacher in charge of lots of middle schoolers, you can give each student a leg up on the future by teaching them basic creative writing skills and exercises at this early stage.

In addition, in a time when the advent of new styles of communication are arising, such as texting, it is mo0re important than ever to teach children how to write properly before they get into the habit of writing in “text talk”, abbreviating everything, misspelling things for “speedy texting” and generally writing without any punctuation or thought to proper grammar.

While preparing your creative writing lessons, you should make sure you are including a lot of writing assignments, as the best way for each student to learn about creative writing will be through the process of actually writing. As you plan these lessons, you should divide them into a pair of categories: One category should be assignments that will help your students “loosen up,” by being creative and having fun, and other category should be assignments that encourage your students to “tighten up,” by focusing on their spelling, grammar, usage, and so on.

In time, you can start to combine the “loosen up” and “tighten up” assignments together, grading your students (or gauging their progress) based on both their creativity and their ability to adhere to basic writing rules; also, if you are teaching your students other things at the same time you are teaching them creative writing, you can combine creative writing principles with projects for other subjects!

Finally, the most important thing of all is for creative writing to feel like “fun” instead of feeling like “work”; you can accomplish this in a number of ways, but a couple things to consider is changing the setup of the room completely when you are going to be doing creative writing, and to participate in the assignments yourself, so your students can see what you come up with!

When you put all these elements together, you will be able to train your students in the basics of creative writing, and this will lay a foundation for their continued success in both school and business!

Getting Wedding Planning Jobs

If you have decided that you want to start a career as a wedding planner, you can know everything you need to know about wedding planning and be great at what you do, but if you do not know how to get hired for jobs, this knowledge and and proficiency will not do anything for you! If your goal is to get hired for wedding planning jobs, you need to make sure you are taking the right approach; read on to pick up some tips regarding what this “right approach” can be.

In order to start landing some wedding planning jobs, the most important thing you will need is a great resume; if you have not had much wedding planning experience before (or if you have had none at all), don’t worry about this too much – just make sure you highlight all of your strengths that will translate to wedding planning. Once you have created a great resume, it will also be good to try to add some weddings onto the resume, as this will make it easy for you to pick up jobs in the future.

The Wedding Planning Guide Book!

Early on – when you are simply trying to add weddings to your resume – you are less likely to get paid a ton, but you can pick up wedding planning jobs for friends (or friends of friends) for free or for a huge discount, and this will help you beef up your resume.

Getting a job with a wedding planning company is another great way to beef up your resume; even though you might want to branch out on your own eventually, a job such as this can help you get your feet under you and can also be a great boon to your resume.

Finally, in order to start getting some wedding planning jobs, you should network with other wedding planners; not only will this help you gain valuable knowledge and information, but it will also help you get plugged into jobs when other wedding planners have more than they can handle!

Another great way to boost your own credibility is to write an ebook or free report that you can give people on wedding planning.  The idea with this is to establish yourself as an authority figure, but also to show the customers ALL the things they would have to do if they were planning this themselves.  So, if you write an ebook or a report (and get other reports and read them to get ideas for your own), go through all the steps of all the things you will do as a wedding planner, telling them how to do it themselves, which will give them great information, but will also highlight all the time and hassle they will be saving themselves when they hire you as their planner.  You may also want to design a free gift to give them just for considering you, like a cake-cutting set or something related to the wedding with your business information on it.  Things like these make great impressions, and will help you land your first wedding planning job!
